TITLE:  Project Manager New Product Development

LOCATION: Portland, Oregon USA

DEPARTMENT: New Product Development

REPORTS TO TITLE: Product Engineering Manager

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

The primary responsibility of this role is to ensure that product development projects from concept development through initial production launch are successfully completed from cost, quality and schedule perspectives.   In doing this, the project manager leads a cross functional team comprised of product managers, industrial designers, sourcing specialists, product engineers, manufacturing and quality engineers and is responsible for project plans, schedules, and risk including status reporting, key performance indicator tracking and participating in gate reviews. Ensuring and maintaining team communication and collaboration. The role also supports the development, maintenance and ongoing improvement of an efficient and effective product development process, project management tools and techniques, and related documents.

 MAJOR ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage product development project plans, schedules and action registers from concept development through initial production launch to ensure that projects are successfully completed from cost, quality and schedule perspectives.   Ensure that key project documents are completed and stored in the project library. At project closure, capture and share key lessons learned.Efficiently manage and communicate milestones throughout the project lifecycle
  • Lead cross-functional teams in the identification, tracking, and management via appropriate mitigation plans of project risk. Report on risk as needed, facilitate technical project review meetings and present project risk and status at gate review meetings.  
  • Monitor, track and report on project status, key performance indicators and any changes to scope using established tools including the master project list, dashboard reports, regular project updates and gate review presentations.
  • Support the development, maintenance and ongoing improvement of an efficient and effective product development process, project management tools and techniques, and related documents. Ensure that team members understand and adhere to requirements, providing assistance and training as needed.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher with coursework or certification in project management.
  • 2+ years project management experience in consumer products or in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills, including ability to work independently and as a team member, set priorities and organize work to meet deadlines.
  • Fluent in English (oral and written).
  • Proficient in project management software and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and familiar with Microsoft Sharepoint.
